I just arrived from having attended SES Latino for two purposes. First to report for my blog as they were gracious to provide Miamiadguy with a press pass. Secondly, the company I work for was using this event as a “soft launch” for the new Latin3 brand.
The event, overall, was informative but suffered trying to understand its audience. After all, isn’t targeting one of the fundamentals of marketing? Most search professionals I spoke to felt the advanced track was too basic. I personally felt that the novice track was much too novice. However, it was a good overview of the industry for those that are not familiar with the discipline. On a positive note, there were a few outstanding sessions, but nothing consistently good.
The attendees seemed to be 2/3 from Latin America and 1/3 from the U.S. It also seemed there were a lot of “small” marketers looking to break into search or looking to hire talent. There was a time that potential employers swarmed our booth like it was mosquito season. There were also many general market search companies looking to learn how to do Hispanic search. We also saw many SMBs looking to develop an overall approach to the market. But overall, the event was worth it because there just aren’t enough events for Hispanic interactive vendors to showcase their offering.
I heard the event was better last year. Hopefully next year, the event will better define its audience and attract other exhibitors as the showing was not good…8 total I believe. This will make for an overall better event. Also, there should be more Hispanic agency presence as this topic should be top of mind with many of them.

Went. Found it too basic. Too hodge-podge. Disappointed.
